25 APRIL 2013 Sion College and London Diocese
A Seminar for those in Self-Supporting Ministry (SSM), Ministers in Secular Employment (MSE) and other Non-Stipendiary Ministers (NSM) to explore the theology and praxis of the ordained life. Sion College is pleased to invite you to a seminar supper, specifically for clergy in Self-Supporting Ministry, led by The Revd Neil Evans, Director of Ministry for the Diocese of London. Since the first experiments in ‘Worker Priests’ in France in the 1950s, through new possibilities opening up in the 1960s in the Church of England, the inception of the Southwark Ordination Course 50 years ago, to the variety of expressions of ordained self-supporting ministry today, wide discussion has taken place about appropriate models of ministry. Today SSMs make up around a quarter of all active clergy in the Church of England, and many different models of ministry pertain. This seminar will offer the opportunity to consider and explore some of these models of ministry, reflect on the theology that lies behind them and hear from those who have considered their realities in practice. Supper and drinks will be provided. Priority will be given to applications from members of Sion College who are SSMs, but the number of places is limited.
